MTI Micro Receives Authorization for an Additional Five Hundred Thousand in Funding from The U.S. Department of Energy

ALBANY, N.Y., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — MTI MicroFuel Cells Inc. (MTI Micro), developer of the award-winning Mobion(R) micro fuel cell technology for handheld electronic devices and a subsidiary of Mechanical Technology Incorporated (MTI) (Nasdaq: MKTY), announced that the U.S. Department of Energy (“DOE”) Office of Hydrogen, Fuel Cells, and Infrastructure Technologies released an additional $0.500 million dollars to continue MTI Micro’s funding for a cost-shared program expected to result in up to $1.8 million in funding from the DOE between 2007 and 2008.

Including this most recent funds release, the DOE has, to date in 2007, committed $1.0 million dollars to MTI Micro’s Mobion(R) commercialization efforts which include the development of mass manufacturing techniques and the optimization of its unique Mobion(R) technology platform.
